Our Spirit-filled Lives

Our Spirit-filled Lives

“Spirit is everywhere and you are an embodiment of it.” Frank E. Richelieu

The psalmist wrote, “Don’t you know that you are gods and everyone of you is a child of the Most High?” (Psalm 82.6). Now, that isn’t a bit of blasphemy that somehow wound up in our scriptures, but a reasonable deduction. If we are from God, we must have at least some of the same qualities as God. If we are God’s offspring, we must carry God’s DNA! There is a divine “Something” which is part of our True Self, and our worship and study and spiritual disciplines are meant to help us discover, connect with, and express this divine quality in our lives and in our world.

The Prophet Jeremiah imagines God saying, “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” (Jer. 23.24). In Acts 17.28 we see St. Paul quoting a Greek poet: “In God we live and move and have our being.” In one of the two allegorical stories of creation in our bible, we see God breathing the breath of life, the spirit into the earth-being. Over and over we see that God is everywhere fully present, we are God’s offspring, and we are filled with God’s spirit. For Spirit to be omnipresent means that it is exactly where we are, wherever we are, and we can never be separated from it. It is forever part of us, and we are forever part of it.

Now, consider again: “Spirit is everywhere and you are an embodiment of it.” The spirit of universal, omnipresent, eternal life is expressing in, through, and as you. You can’t be separated from it. This thought can fill us with so much hope and peace and joy that any perceived problem vanishes in the light of this Truth. As we say every Sunday, “wherever we are, God is, and all is well.” Enjoy communion with the Universal Spirit. It is exactly where you are. Now simply quiet your mind, make contact with it, and let the Spirit bless you with peace and wholeness.
