I Believe in Miracles
I Believe in Miracles
By Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins
“As we become purer channels for God’s light, we develop an appetite for the sweetness that is possible in this world. A miracle worker is not geared toward fighting the world that is, but toward creating the world that could be.” Marianne Williamson
I believe in miracles. I don’t mean that I believe the laws of nature are suspended for some but not for others, nor do I mean that some people have the magic or the special divine favor to manifest their wishes while others do not. I understand a miracle to be a change of perception. When we shift from despair to optimism, that is a miracle (and that miracle often leads to some amazing achievements as well). When we release fear and embrace peace (going to peace instead of to pieces), that is a miracle (again, followed often by impressive opportunities). When we start to believe in our sacred value, that is a miracle. When we become aware of the divine presence that is always with us and from which we can never be separated, that is a miracle. And these miracles fill us with joy and strength and courage, and then we tend to do incredible things in the world. Healing from grief, turning your finances around, finding a new job, improving your health…these aren’t miracles, they are the results of a miracle…the miracle of changing your perception to see God and infinite possibilities in every moment of your life. When we know God is with us and we trust that divine presence, the details of life seem to work out much better. But it all starts with acknowledging and experiencing the Omnipresence. I believe in miracles. Let the miracles begin!
